MTG Old Frame League XV

The fifteenth MTG Old Frame League marked the exciting debut of the Old Frame Legacy format. Echoing the charm of Old Frame Vintage, this format harks back to the Legacy format of 2003, when Scourge was released. With 14 enthusiastic players participating, its instant popularity was evident. The league spanned from March 7th to May 1st.

The 14 participants were divided into two groups, each battling through six intense matches to determine who would secure a spot in the top 4. The diversity in strategy was evident, with players choosing a range of archetypes from Grow-A-Tog to Landstill, and even Stiflenought, Elves, and Goblins.

As the dust settled, the final standings were unveiled. Intriguingly, no player emerged undefeated. Group B, in particular, showcased razor-thin margins, emphasising the fierce competition and closely-matched skills of the players.

Top 4

Following a riveting group stage, the MTG Old Frame League XV transitioned to its climactic Top 4. The elite players from each group clashed, each vying for the coveted prize.

In the opening semifinal, Karl Akbari faced off against Vinícius Braga in a mirror Threshold match. Vinícius made the most out of the growing green creatures, defeating Karl 2-1.

Meanwhile, in the subsequent match, Michael Arnold‘s goblins proved too overwhelming for Attilio Bragantini‘s Psychatog.

Everything was thus ready for the first finals of the Old Frame Legacy League.

Finals

Indeed, the formidable goblins outpaced Vina as well. These iconic creatures, a staple in the Magic: the Gathering lore, had their moment in the spotlight. They not only dazzled the audience but also cemented their status as the dominant Legacy archetype. Congratulations to Michael Arnold, our first Old Frame Legacy champion!
